Our Priorities

Driving Climate
Solutions

We believe we have a responsibility to act in the fight against climate change. That’s why Blackbaud is dedicated to proactively protecting the environment beyond our own internal sustainable business practices. Here’s how we’re doing our part:

Decarbonization

We achieved carbon neutrality across our business operations in 2023, as well as in 2021 and 2022, through a combination of on-site solar, Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs), and reforestation carbon offset projects. We continue to look for new ways to reduce our carbon footprint, including working to further integrate and invest in renewable energy.

How we’re doing:

  • 92% reduction of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions since 2019
  • Invested in reforestation carbon offset projects in Jinja, Uganda and Mississippi, USA
  • Began development of near-term and long-term Net Zero Science Based Targets (SBTs)

Responsible Operations

Our remote-first workforce strategy continues to play a major role in minimizing the environmental impact of our operations. Our LEED Gold HQ in Charleston serves as our primary physical location and is equipped with on-site solar panels, LED lighting, and optimized HVAC solutions. Since 2019, we have achieved:

  • 23% reduction in total energy consumption in our global headquarters
  • 45% water reduction in our global headquarters

Strategic Partnerships

We are partnering with frontline organizations making a difference. For example, we support Project Drawdown’s efforts to reach educators, students, professionals, and individual change agents interested in climate change solutions globally. Here’s the impact of our support:

  • Project Drawdown launched a short documentary series, Drawdown’s Neighborhood, and released nearly 50 episodes
  • This year, Project Drawdown facilitated more than 50 virtual talks and educational workshops, including a Drawdown Ignite webinar with close to 2,000 registrants
  • Drawdown’s Neighborhood stories were featured in numerous editorial collaborations with National Geographic and Pinterest in 2023
